Press Release Backlinks: Cost, Sites and What They Do

October 12, 2026 By Kevin Mahoney Leave a Comment

Press release backlinks are links placed in a factual company announcement that is accepted and distributed through a newswire route. They can give your customers, partners, and searchers a public page to find and share; they do not guarantee a ranking, a specific outlet pickup, traffic, or a backlink that passes ranking credit. For a Chicago contractor opening a second location or a SaaS company announcing a partnership, the useful question is whether you have real news and a destination page worth sending readers to.

How do press release backlinks work?

A release normally includes one relevant link back to the page where a reader can learn more about the announcement. That might be a new-location page, partnership page, original report, or product explainer. The release is then reviewed by the chosen publisher and, if accepted, receives a primary publication URL. Other sites may pick it up through the route’s network, but those sites control whether they display, retain, or link to it.

Google says that links placed in paid advertisements or sponsorships that pass ranking credit can violate its spam policies. In plain terms: use a release to communicate real news and direct the right reader to a useful page, not to buy a promised SEO link.

What are the steps for using a press release link?

  1. Start with a real event. A launch, expansion, funding event, verified award, partnership, executive appointment, community program, or original report gives the release a reason to exist. A seasonal sale by itself usually needs your own marketing channels instead.
  2. Choose one reader destination. Link to the page that helps someone verify the news or take the next step. A local roofing company announcing service in Naperville should usually link to the service-area or announcement page, not its homepage. Our guide on release link destinations can help you choose.
  3. Gather facts and approvals. Confirm names, dates, figures, quote approval, rights to images, and the contact email before submission. Use this distribution intake checklist before you spend money.
  4. Match the story to a route. ACCESS Newswire says it supports single-release public-relations distribution, while GlobeNewswire’s U.S. network lists Yahoo Finance among its destinations. Neither fact promises acceptance or pickup for an individual announcement.
  5. Save the publication record. Keep the accepted copy, live URL, publication date, reported pickups, and any route analytics. That proves what was published; it does not prove a search result, sale, or permanent third-party link.

Which press release backlink sites should you consider?

Think in terms of publisher routes, not a fixed list of backlink sites. A wire can distribute a release into its network, while individual participating sites decide what happens after that. The best route depends on the news, audience, geography, publisher rules, and reporting you need.

Route Best fit What you receive after acceptance
ACCESS Newswire / Newswire A standard U.S. small-business announcement, such as a launch or expansion Primary publication URL and available pickup reporting
GlobeNewswire Company news where broader financial syndication and available reporting matter GlobeNewswire publication URL, reported pickups, and available analytics
Direct local outreach A story with a clear local effect, such as a new facility, event, or community program Possible reporter or calendar consideration; this is separate from wire distribution
Your own site Every announcement A page you control, where readers can verify details and take the next step

Google recommends people-first content that is useful and reliable in its helpful-content guidance. That is a practical standard for the destination page too: make it answer the question that brought the reader there instead of treating the release link as the whole strategy.

What do press release backlinks cost?

Prices shown here are as of September 23, 2026; check checkout for today’s price and get the final route, scope, and refund terms in writing before you pay.

Option Distribution With release production When it fits
Signature News $495 $890 One eligible general-business announcement through the ACCESS Newswire / Newswire route
Global Authority $995 $1,390 One eligible GlobeNewswire route announcement
Complete Market $1,295 $1,690 One eligible announcement coordinated across both routes
Self-service alternative $149 cited price Varies A publisher-ready announcement where you can handle the planning and submission work yourself

Our managed packages include route-fit planning, preparation, submission management, publisher communication, and a publication record after acceptance. Release production adds a search-led, publisher-ready release for the same announcement. If you already have accurate, final copy and a straightforward event, distribution-only can be the simpler choice. See our press release package guide when you are ready to compare the work and cost.

What distribution controls, and what it does not

Our team controls the search planning, route preparation, formatting, submission management, revisions within the agreed scope, and the publication record. Publishers and platforms control acceptance, presentation, downstream pickup, retention, indexing, and audience response. Google controls search results. That division matters because a release can be well planned and still receive different pickup or search outcomes than another story.

For eligible releases with our release-production service, we make reasonable compliant corrections and resubmit if the publisher requests changes. If acceptance cannot ultimately be obtained on the purchased route, the published service terms provide for a refund of the complete production-and-distribution amount for that release. Customer-supplied copy that is declined may be revised and resubmitted or receive a distribution-charge refund under those terms.

How do you avoid buying the wrong kind of release?

  • Ask whether the announcement is genuinely new and supportable.
  • Ask which publisher route is being proposed and why it fits your audience.
  • Ask what URL the release will link to and what that page helps a reader do.
  • Ask for the exact inclusions, revision scope, refund terms, and reporting in writing.
  • Do not buy a package because it promises a particular outlet, ranking, traffic number, or dofollow backlink.

If your business has one clear, timely announcement, a single release can create a documented public proof point. If you have several genuinely different events, each needs its own facts, audience question, and destination. Repeating one thin story across several releases is not a useful campaign.
